#6 If you are in a StepSing Show...

...then you will not get good sleep the week of the performances.

You might not get good sleep from the time practice starts all the way until the performances are over, but if you manage your time you can put it off until the final week.

We're in the final days of StepSing season. The first performance is tonight, and two more will follow tomorrow and Saturday.

There's so much we could say about StepSing, but the sleep part is the most pressing on our minds currently, even though I (Jackie) am not a part of a show.

I (Ruth Anne) am.

And have you gotten sleep?

No.

Point made.

#5 A List of Items That Can Be Used For Sledding Down Vail Hill

It snowed. Today. And we have been exposed to a myriad of ways to sled/slide down Vail Hill. Some worked, some didn't. And I (Jackie) have decided to compile a list of the good and the bad ideas.

We'll start with the Good Ideas.

  • Snowboard- Yes, someone brought one. It works quite well, obviously.
  • Lid of a Large Plastic Storage Bin- These are a lot of fun, but you have to keep your balance.
  • Caf Trays- Not that the Caf has them anymore, but you can find some in random places on campus...one of the guy RAs had one in his room.

Now with the Bad.

  • Laundry Basket- It works for a while, but you fall over toward the bottom of the hill. So they work, kind of, but you're going to fall out.
  • Cardboard- Soggy. Nuff said.
  • Mattress- It actually works really well, but the RAs get mad at you, so just don't.
  • Trash Bag Smock- It's comical, actually, but you're going to get wet. But if you don't mind...

Anything I missed? Any other ideas?

#4 Community Bathrooms

My turn(Ruth Anne)
So, one of the many things about college life is the bathrooms. If your lucky you get a private for just you and your roommate or maybe you get a suite for you and three other people. But many times at least for freshman you get community baths.

Some people (girls especially) freak out when they hear those words. But I promise that community bathrooms are not that bad. We've had to use them this entire year. The best part is they are where you see all the people on your hall and make conversation. Its fun to sing along with the radio or whatever is playing in the bathroom and especially when others join in.

So, if you get a community bathrooom don't freak out! Enjoy getting to know the girls on your hall!

#3 Don't Hold Grudges

I (Jackie again) have a problem with this. It's not that I want to, or that I even realize it most of the time, but I tend to hold some minor grudges.

When I see people that have rejected me in some way (there are three in particular on campus who I tend to do this the most to), I do my best to look like I'm so happy and having the time of my life without them. If I know I might run into these people, I make sure I look at least decent and that I'm smiling and laughing with my friends. If I somehow end up in their line of sight and I'm alone, I hope they don't notice me and pretend to text on my phone so they don't think I'm a loser (After writing that down, I sound so incredibly petty...yikes).

My point is, grudges are not good for you. They eat you up inside, and you become obsessed with proving yourself to a person you probably shouldn't care about and may not ever have to deal with again in your life. You're only hurting yourself because the person you're holding a grudge against may not even care.

"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you." Ephesians 4:32

#2 Naps Are Your New Best Friend

There is absolutely nothing better than a nap when you're in college. I (Jackie) am one of those people who likes to get classes over with in the morning, so I try to have mostly early classes (I have a 1:00 M/W class this semester because it's my JMC course and that was the earliest time it was offered! Bugs me so much...)

Anywhos, early classes means getting out of bed way before I want to (I'm a morning person, but only after I'm out of the bed. Before I get up, I'm totally wanting to kill my alarm clock). And if I don't go to bed on time, then I'm super tired. I'll be mostly okay through my classes, but as soon as I get out of class, I just want to crash.

So I do. I head back to my dorm room, change into PJ pants and one of those guys' white V-necks that Hane's makes (most comfortable shirts ever), get in my bed, and take a nap.

How long the nap is depends on what I have to do the rest of the day, homework, etc., but it's normally around an hour and a half/two hours. And it feels sooooo good.

So here's the tip: when you're super-tired and you have extra time, take a nap. There's nothing wrong with naps...in fact, they're good for you! It's a total recharge for the rest of your day.

Just don't nap away the afternoon if you have a big test or paper due the next day. That would be a bad idea. Just sayin'

#1 If You Are Not Lucky Enough to Live on a Floor With a Laundry Machine...

find a friend who does and use them for their room so you don't have to trudge up and down stairs with heavy loads of laundry a bazillion times (Jackie).

Trust me, having a friend on laundry level is a lifesaver. I should know...this is why my best friend is my best friend.

Haha...you better be kidding!

Of course, I am! *blush* Yeah, that's totally not the reason...just one of them.

Okay...I'm fine with that.

Okay, so anyway, laundry is something we all have to deal with, so take my advice and find a friend's room to hang out in while doing laundry. It is such a relief (*ahem*)...um, I mean, blessing to have a friend on laundry level.

And if you're lucky enough to live on laundry level, laugh mercilessly at the poor students who live on the fifth floor.

See! I knew you had an evil side...

I hang around you, don't I?

Touche...

Hello From Birmingham, Alabama!

I'm Jackie!

And I'm Ruth Anne!

We're currently freshmen in our second semester at Samford University, and trust us, we learned so much from last semester that we went home for break absolutely set to BURST! So, we figured we'd share our knowledge with you.

Some are really goofy...meaning they're probably mine (Jackie).

Trust me (Ruth Anne), they're probably hers.

Some have everything to do with surviving college, some will apply only to Samford students, and some may just have very little to do with college at all. But all of these are things we learned at Samford.

Hope you enjoy!

(You'd better...we have a mob of ninjas on call. They'll get you. So not kidding.)
